Checklist Guide

Boarding operations checklist

Use this practical checklist to run smoother shifts, reduce misses, and maintain consistent pet care quality.

1) Opening shift checklist

  • • Review all active stays and same-day arrivals/departures.
  • • Confirm feeding and medication flags for each assigned dog.
  • • Inspect kennel units for cleanliness, safety, and readiness.
  • • Verify staffing assignments and escalation contacts.
  • • Log opening notes before client traffic starts.

2) Mid-day execution checklist

  • • Process check-ins using intake checklist and condition notes.
  • • Complete feeding, yard breaks, enrichment, and care updates.
  • • Record any behavior or health exceptions immediately.
  • • Send priority client updates for new arrivals and concerns.
  • • Confirm check-out packet readiness for same-day departures.

3) Closing + handoff checklist

  • • Complete final welfare round and confirm all dogs accounted for.
  • • Close outstanding tasks (medication, notes, report cards, invoices).
  • • Flag unresolved risks for next shift with explicit owner.
  • • Document incidents with timestamp, action, and follow-up plan.
  • • Publish handoff summary in your operations report.

Implementation tip

If your checklist lives in chat threads or paper binders, execution quality will drift by shift. Keep checklists inside your daily workflow system so completion and accountability are visible.
